About the Event

Adoption Support Alliance clinician classes are an opportunity for community members to learn from adoption-competent clinicians in the Charlotte area.  The content of these classes will focus on a therapeutic approach or model often used in therapy to help adoptive families.  Participants in our Clinician Classes will leave with practical tools and skills that can be implemented right away in order to enhance their family’s functioning and will have a better understanding of the clinical services available to them in Charlotte.

On Monday, May 16th, we will continue our Clinician Class series with Amanda Zaidman, LCSW.  Utilizing her formal training and years of experience as a social worker, she will educate parents about the Internal Family Systems therapy model as well as the somatic connection to our daily responses.  Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a modality that recognizes that we are all made up of many different parts.  For example, each time your child misbehaves you might find an internal battle going on between the part of you that wants to parent from a place of connection and nurturing and the part of you that fears that if you tolerate the behavior you will be creating a monster.  In this class you will learn how to start to recognize your parts, how they are trying to help, and what triggers them.  You will leave with strategies to help your parts settle so that you can respond to your children from your best self instead of reacting in anger or frustration.

To learn more about Amanda and her work with families utilizing the IFS model, you can reference her website.  We are so grateful that she is willing to share a glimpse into this deep work with us.
